Something I noticed...it seems like alot of guys who are engineers end up dating females who are teachers or in a profession that works with kids.

Could it be that each day engineers talk in such technical jargon, and teachers speak in rudimentary language to communicate with the young minds of their children... so these two opposite extremes of personality become ...

I'm working on my PhD in Chemistry out here in California, but I think my advisor is coming on to me. He only seems to hire females in the lab (undergrads and grads), and he's always asking us out for dinner, drinks, and to his house for social events. Plus, I feel like I won't advance in my academic career unless I'm nice to him and actually go out when he asks me. I'm thinking about switching advisors. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Going from living in Prince George's County, MD, to Hampton University for undergrad, to Georgia Tech for grad school, I notice that there were very few students who looked like me! Luckily, I was in Atlanta... but within the boundries of Georgia Tech, there were very few African Americans, even fewer in the graduate school program. I had to learn to branch out and try to get to know the other students in the class and work with them in group projects and studying. If it wasn't for me making ...

This is a question in the minds of many college seniors. Usually graduate students will take fewer classes than in undergrad, and there are more in-depth application projects related in the classes. When I did my Master's in Mechanical Engineering, it was actually less time-consuming than in undergrad. Doing the thesis option, I took 7 classes (3hrs per class for 21hrs, plus an additional 9 thesis hours) as opposed to the 10 classes (30hrs) that I would have had to take with a non-thesis. ...
